Let's Kahoot!
Hello teachers! Nice to meet you again here.
We know that it's never easy to maintain our students' motivation during our classes, especially when we want to do some in-class quizzes. So today I would like to share a good tool to help us as teachers to let our students engage in our course contents. And this tool is called Kahoot.
As teachers, we can use Kahoot to:
So, as we can see, it contains all kinds of class activities for teachers to do no matter new content introduction or knowledge revision. And the process of creating your own Kahoot games is really easy and simple, just click on the 'Create a Kahoot' button on the home page of Kahoot (https://create.kahoot.it).
And then it's your opportunity to show your creativity to make your own Kahoot. Take your time, select or upload the content you want and enjoy this funny progress.

Below I will show you some screenshots of a simple quiz game I just created in Kahoot.
As you can see, I made a quiz game that combined multiple choice and true or false questions. You can also choose other game types but it requires a 'premium' membership which you need to pay for it.
So here comes some limitations of Kahoot for us as language teachers, like I mentioned above, if you only use the free version of Kahoot, your game types and choices of game elements are all limited. And using such a game-based software might also reduce students' chances of oral practice. Furthermore, I don't think this tool can be used too often(for example, every class every time) since our students might not feel fresh and then lose their interest in these activities, which means lose their motivation for class. So I suggest teachers should only use Kahoot games maybe twice or three times a month.
Apart from the above limitations, Kahoot's overall class effect is satisfactory. It supports students' language learning through its intuitive gameplay. During the process of gameplay, students are able to evaluate their knowledge for each stage, students can clearly know their recent learning status. Furthermore, Kahoot games can provide a competitive environment that can stimulate students' enthusiasm and motivation no matter during or after the class, if they want to win the game next time, they need to work hard after class and review the knowledge.
Anyway, if you want to learn more about Kahoot, you might find this website useful. It's a brand new and detailed Kahoot guide video made in 2023!
Hi, Yifan. I am very into your blog for Kahoot! You have shown very clear steps for teachers to follow you. And you also made samples for how to create class activities on this platform. I think your blog is very rich in content! Great !
ReplyDeleteHi, I really like the way you show the website to us. I find it interesting to interact in the game you design! Maybe I will use this game in my future teaching.
